The Apothecary Diaries attraction coming to Universal Studios Japan

Universal Studios Japan (USJ) is currently hosting “Universal Cool Japan 2025”, a year-long event commemorating the 10th anniversary of its “Universal Cool Japan” event.

It has been confirmed that the 2025 event will feature a collaboration with the anime series “The Apothecary Diaries” (Kusuriya no Hitorigoto).

This collaboration will introduce a themed attraction, exclusive merchandise and themed food items centered on the series’ main characters, Maomao and Jinshi.

Exact details regarding the attraction have not been provided, however dates have been confirmed at it will be available for a limited period between July 1st 2025 and January 4th 2026.

Over the past 10 years, “Universal Cool Japan” has evolved into a major event that attracts both domestic and international visitors.

The event incorporates various elements, including shows, rides, merchandise, themed restaurants, and food carts, to create a comprehensive entertainment experience.

It serves as a platform for promoting Japanese entertainment brands to a global audience and has featured a number of popular series over the years including Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer, My Hero Academia and Monster Hunter.

“The Apothecary Diaries” is based on a series of light novels that have achieved significant popularity, with over 40 million copies sold across various formats.

The series is known for its protagonist, Maomao, a pharmacist who solves mysteries.

The anime adaptation achieved the highest viewership of any series on the Japanese streaming platform TVer and received recognition at the TVer Awards 2023.

The series has also attracted an international audience, as evidenced by its presence at events like Anime Expo 2024 in Los Angeles.

A Detective Conan escape game is part of the current Cool Japan event

The collaboration at Universal Studios Japan will aim to translate the world of “The Apothecary Diaries” into a “super realistic” experience, employing immersive technologies and theatrical design to create an engaging environment for visitors.

“Universal Cool Japan 2025” is designed to showcase various aspects of Japanese entertainment, including manga, anime, games, music, and fashion.

The 10th-anniversary event started in January 2025 and currently features a murder mystery show “Peril at the Masquerade” inspired by the mystery novels of Keigo Higashino, and the Detective Conan: The World escape game which will both run until June 30th.
