One Piece Shinkansen reveals Luffy/Chopper trains – find out when you can ride them

The “ONE PIECE Shinkansen” will officially commence operations on the Sanyo Shinkansen line from April 2025, offering passengers a “new riding experience” and showcasing the “charms of the areas along the line.”

This initiative aims to bring the world of “ONE PIECE,” created by Eiichiro Oda, to life.

The first services will officially begin operating on the 12th of April 2025 on the previously revealed “ONE PIECE Shinkansen – Setouchi Blue”.

West Japan Railway Company have also unveiled the second and third trains that will run under the “ONE PIECE Shinkansen” brand during 2025.

The final two trains will be based on Monkey D. Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates, and the crews’ doctor, Chopper.

Interior design features have also been announced, so let’s take a look at the 3 trains that will be available!

One Piece Shinkansen 1 – Setouchi Blue (start date April 12th 2025)

This train will feature a design showcasing all members of the Straw Hat Crew.

One Piece Shinkansen 2 – Tony Tony Chopper (start date May 28th 2025)

The train’s design will incorporate the iconic coloring of the popular character “Tony Tony Chopper,” creating a friendly and visually appealing aesthetic for passengers of all ages.

One Piece Shinkansen 3 – Monkey D. Luffy (start date July 22nd 2025)

The train’s exterior will be adorned with 32 different images of Luffy wearing outfits that represent various story arcs, with his signature straw hat serving as a color theme for the train.

Other details revealed include additional interior design choices and special chimes and station announcements:

Vehicle Interior

• The train’s interior, including automatic doors and washbasins, will feature original designs that vary for each train formation.

• In addition to seat wrapping, original head covers will be installed on all seats to reinforce the “ONE PIECE” theme.

• These interior designs aim to create an immersive experience, making passengers feel as if they are embarking on an adventure with the characters.

Chimes and Melodies, In-Train Announcements

• The opening theme of the “ONE PIECE” TV anime, “We Are!,” will be used as the in-car chime melody.
• Luffy and Chopper will make appearances in the train announcements during arrivals and departures at select stations.
• These audio elements are original sound sources exclusive to the “ONE PIECE Shinkansen.”

Original Goods

• Original “ONE PIECE Shinkansen” merchandise will be available for purchase to coincide with the start of operations. These items are intended to serve as mementos of your journey. Additional merchandise will be released in the future.
