New life-size Snow Miku statue unveiled in Sapporo
The Snow Miku Sky Town store has celebrated its 10th anniversary by unveiling a new life-size statue of Snow Miku.
Originally appearing as a snow sculpture of Hatsune Miku displayed at the Sapporo Snow Festival in 2010, Snow Miku has become a distinct character and a “SNOW MIKU” festival has subsequently been held every year in Hokkaido.
Snow Miku currently serves as an ambassador for the Hokkaido prefecture and in September 2024 was given the role of Sapporo Tourism Ambassador to help promote tourism in Sapporo and the wider area.
Crypton Future Media, the company behind Hatsune Miku, previously released a special 10th anniversary webpage as well as two new illustrations of Snow Miku and promised that a new life-sized statue would be installed in their Snow Miku Sky Town store.
Located in Sapporo’s New Chitose Airport, the Snow Miku Sky Town store is an outlet dedicated to selling Snow Miku merchandise.
The store also includes a museum which previously featured a life-size statue of Snow Miku.
Due to renovations, the museum was closed between November 11th and December 19th 2024.
While the renovation took place, the original life-size Snow Miku statue was relocated to the Sapporo Snow Festival Museum located at Sapporo Hitsujigaoka Observatory.
On 20th December, the new life-sized statue was unveiled at the Snow Miku Sky Town store upon it’s re-opening.
Ceated by DESIGN COCO, known for their high quality anime character statues, the statue features a base inspired by snowflakes and equipped with bright LEDs.
If you can’t make it to Sapporo to view the life size Snow Miku statue, you can now order a smaller version to keep at home.
With an expected release date of January 2026, DESIGN COCO are accepting pre-orders until 27th March 2025 for a special 1/7 scale Snow Miku figure that replicates the new life-sized statue and includes Rabbit Yukine.
The new 1/7 scale Snow Miku figure is priced at 34,980 yen (plus shipping) and pre-orders can be placed directly with DESIGN COCO.
