Largest ever Gundam store in Osaka opens for Expo 2025

Bandai will be hosting “THE GUNDAM BASE POP-UP WORLD TOUR in OSAKA” event in Osaka’s Umeda district from April.

The event combines a temporary retail and exhibition space they have named “Gundam Base POP-UP Osaka” which will operate from April 11th until October 13th, 2025.

The venue will be located on the 5th floor of the Daimaru Umeda department store in Osaka.

“Gundam Base POP-UP Osaka” is temporary version of the popular Gundam Base stores that Bandai operate throughout Japan and Asia.

The retail space spans 923 square meters and is described as the largest of its kind in the Kansai region to date.

It will feature a wide assortment of products, including Gundam series plastic models, commonly known as “Gunpla,” as well as apparel, stationery, miscellaneous goods, and confectionery items.

The store will also incorporate exhibition elements, such as a 2-meter-tall Gundam statue and video displays.

This pop-up store will serve as the inaugural location for Bandai’s “THE GUNDAM BASE POP-UP WORLD TOUR” event, a global tour commemorating the 45th anniversary of Gunpla.

Gunpla, which stands for “Gundam plastic model,” is a line of model kits depicting the mecha from the Gundam franchise.

The first Gunpla model was released in 1980, and the products have since become a significant cultural phenomenon, contributing to the broader popularity of the Gundam series.

The opening of “Gundam Base POP-UP Osaka” is aligned with the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025, where Bandai will also be exhibiting a private pavilion, the “GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE PAVILION”.

The company aims to leverage the Expo’s anticipated international audience to promote the Gundam franchise and connect with a global community of fans.

“Gundam Base POP-UP Osaka” is designed to cater to both established Gundam and Gunpla enthusiasts and individuals who may be newly introduced to the franchise through the “GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE PAVILION” at the Osaka-Kansai Expo.

In addition to the “Gundam Base POP-UP Osaka” store, a temporary “TAMASHII NATIONS STORE” will also operate on the 5th floor of Daimaru Umeda during the same period.

“TAMASHII NATIONS” is a brand of collectible figures and toys produced by Bandai Spirits, a subsidiary of Bandai Namco Holdings Inc.

The pop-up store will feature displays of completed figures and retail sales of the latest TAMASHII NATIONS products, including exclusive items only available at the official shop.

The Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 is expected to attract millions of visitors, and the temporary “Gundam Base POP-UP Osaka” and “TAMASHII NATIONS” stores have been setup to attract visitors in Osaka due to the event.

Daimaru Umeda, a major department store in the Umeda district of Osaka, has been chosen as the location for the stores as it provides a central and accessible location for visitors as it is directly connected to Umeda Station.
