Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival 2024 attracts 161,000 visitors
The Ikebukuro Halloween Cosplay Festival took place this weekend, with 161,000 visitors attending the event over the course of three days.
The event began on Friday 25th October with the “Ike Haro Night” evening event at the Sunshine City mall.
While a number of ticket packages were sold out in advance, the organizing committee stated that many visitors found out about the “Ike Haro Night” event from social media while it was underway and were able to book tickets to attend on the day itself.
The festival attracted cosplayers and photographers from across Japan and took place across the eastern Ikebukuro area including Naka-Ikebukuro Park, Sunshine City, Ike-Sun Park, and Higashi-Ikebukuro Central Park.
A special IKEBUS electric bus service was also put in place during the festival to allow attendees to travel around the Ikebukuro area.
The organizing committee also noted that event is an increasingly international one, as there were many overseas participants this year.
On Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October, events took place all day and were centered around the main stage in Naka-Ikebukuro Park.
This included a number of different events such as cosplay competitions, karaoke and photo sessions.
The main highlight of the event was the “Ike Haro Cosplay Parade” which featured approximately 400 cosplayers marching through Ikebukuro on a route between Sunshine 60 Street and Hareza Ikebukuro.
