400 year old Japanese tea shop teams up with popular anime franchise

A Kyoto based tea shop with over 400 years of history dating back to the Edo period has announced a surprising collaboration with popular smartphone game Fate Grand/Order.

Kyoto Rikyu-en, a well established specialty tea shop, has actually teamed up with Fate Grand/Order once before and sales went so well that they’ve decided to release a second collaboration.

The collaboration sees specialty teas created based around the “Servants” of Fate Grand/Order.

This time round, it’s the turn of “Merlin”, “Taigong Wang” and “Nero Claudius” to get their own special tea blend.

Three tea blends have been created for the collaboration, with each character having a blend created that matches their personality traits:

“Flower Dream Tea” inspired by Merlin

Inspired by the magician “Merlin,” this tea contains flowers.

This one-of-a-kind tea combines the mellow sweetness and rich flavor of Kyoto Rikyuen’s unique white sencha with the rich aroma of grapes and the gorgeousness of edible flowers.

“Xian Tao Tea” inspired by Taigong Wang

This tea is inspired by the fairy peach that appears in Chinese legends, and is based on the authentic Chinese Pu-erh tea, but with a peach flavor.

Pu-erh tea is a tea that is enjoyed daily in China along with dim sum, and is made by post-fermenting the tea leaves.

“Red Rose Imperial Tea” inspired by Nero Claudius

Inspired by the beautiful rose tyrant “Nero Claudius,” Kyoto Rikyu-en have luxuriously blended rose aroma into Japanese black tea made from 100% domestic black tea.

The refined, subtle sweetness and the mellow rose aroma that spreads in your mouth make this a tea that is soothing to the mind and body.

The collaboration tea blends will be sold in a set that includes Kyoto Rikyu-en’s signature “Kuro Hoji” blend.

“Kuro Hoji” tea is roasted multiple times, giving it a strong aroma that creates a premium scent and taste. It also has a low caffeine content that makes it suitable for both older adults and children.

Each set will cost 7,700 yen (approx. $51.50 USD/£39.66 GBP) and includes a pot of both the collaboration tea blend and “Kuro Hoji” tea.

An exclusive acrylic stand featuring an original illustration created for the collaboration is also included, as is a presentation sleeve featuring your selected “Servant”.
