Jindai Botanical Gardens was originally a nursery growing trees for Tokyo's roads, but after the war it was opened to the public as Jindai Green Space. In 1961, the name was changed to Jindai Botanical Gardens, and it opened as the only botanical garden in Tokyo at the time.
