Event Overview
A ritual in which holy water boiled in a cauldron is sprinkled on bamboo leaves, this is a Setsubun event that heralds the arrival of spring.
Holy water drawn from Iwashimizu, one of the five springs of Otokoyama, is boiled in a kettle and offered to the altar.
A female kagura dancer vigorously splashes the boiling water from the kettle over bamboo leaves, praying for protection from misfortune, good health, and bountiful harvests.
It is said that bathing in the boiling water that has been splashed in all four directions during the ritual will bring good fortune.
The bamboo leaves are distributed to the participants after the ritual.
