Shizumine Furusato Park Sakura Festival
Last Updated on March 27, 2025

Event Overview
Shizumine Furusato Park, found within the borders of Ibaraki Prefecture, stands out as a particularly well-regarded place for people to experience and appreciate the beauty that sakura season offers.
The park’s grounds are quite extensive and they are filled with a large number of cherry trees, approximately 4,000 in total. What makes this park a bit different is that it features two main types of cherry trees in almost equal numbers.

You’ll find both the Somei Yoshino variety, which are the more commonly seen cherry blossoms, and the Yaezakura variety. The Yaezakura trees are known for their characteristic of blooming a little later in the season compared to the Somei Yoshino, which is why they are often referred to as late-blooming cherry blossoms.
When these Yaezakura trees reach their most beautiful stage, when they are at their peak bloom and covered in blossoms, the park organizes and hosts a sakura festival.
This means that the park is a prime location to visit if you’re interested in seeing a large quantity of cherry blossoms, especially the late-blooming Yaezakura, and also to enjoy the festive atmosphere of a traditional sakura festival.
