Event Overview
The Shittenoji Doya Doya Festival, famously known as Osaka’s Naked Festival, marks the culmination of 14 days of post-New Year worship at Shittenoji Temple.
Teams of high school students with historical ties to the temple participate in a spirited contest. Clad only in loincloths, they brave icy water dousing while shouting “doya doya” – the Japanese onomatopoeia for thundering footsteps. This creates a highly charged atmosphere of competition.
