Event Overview
Setagaya’s Hanegi Park is one of the most popular plum blossom viewing spots in Tokyo, with 650 trees in total, including 270 red plum trees and 380 white plum trees.
In 1967, 55 people who were elected to the Setagaya Ward Assembly planted 55 plum trees as a commemorative planting.
In 1971 there were further commemorative tree plantings to mark the 100th anniversary of Tokyo and the 40th anniversary of Setagaya Ward in 1972.
Plum trees are regularly planted in the park to commemorate significant occasions and anniversaries.
Each year a festival is held in the park to celebrate the coming of spring and the beautiful plum blossoms.
The festival creates a lively community atmosphere with performances, markets, tea ceremonies and more that people of all ages can enjoy!
Calendar of Events
Many events and activities take place during the festival such as tea ceremonies, mochi pounding, Haiku workshops, horse riding experiences and stage performances.
A full calendar of events can be found on the official website.
