What to expect at Sapporo White Illumination 2024

This event sees the city of Sapporo glowing with Christmas lights and will be held at five locations around the city.

Sapporo White Illumination was first held in 1981 and was Japan’s first winter illumination event.

Odori Park will be illuminated with 6 different festive artworks, including a light tunnel decorated with snowflakes, giant snow globes, a light maze, two different Christmas trees and giant winter blossom.

With many interactive elements and so may illuminations to explore, it is perfect for people of all ages to enjoy.

The trees lining Ekimae-dori Avenue, Minami Ichijo-dori and Sapporo City Kita 3-jo Square (Akapla) venue will all be decorated with glittering white, champagne and blue lights creating a magical winter wonderland.

Sapporo Station South Exit Square will be home to a sound & light performance which changes 4 times during the illumination running times.

When will Sapporo White Illumination 2024 take place?

Sapporo White Illumination takes place from the 22nd November 2024 until the 14th March 2025.

Illuminations will be lit from 16:30 until 22:00 daily.

*Odori venue and Ekimae-dori venue illuminations are only available until the 25th December 2024.

Sapporo White Illumination is free to attend.

How do I get to Sapporo White Illumination 2024?

Nearest Station: Sapporo White Illumination is best accessed from Bus Center-Mae Station using the Tōzai Line.

You can also reach the event from Ōdōri Station using the Namboku Line, Tōzai Line or the Tōhō Line.

Alternatively, Sapporo White Illumination can be accessed from Susukino Station using the Namboku Line.
