Kitakami Tenshochi Sakura Festival
Last Updated on March 27, 2025

Event Overview
Annually, spanning from approximately mid-April to early May, Kitakami Tenshochi Park, located in Iwate Prefecture, becomes the venue for a cherry blossom festival, dedicated to celebrating the aesthetic splendor of the spring season.
Given that the event coincides with the Golden Week holiday period, there is a display of carp streamers suspended over the Kitakami River, alongside the availability of boat cruises and horse-drawn carriage rides along pathways lined with sakura trees, among other attractions.

In total, the park boasts approximately 10,000 cherry trees, and it has been officially recognized as one of Japan’s Top 100 Cherry Blossom viewing locations.
Following the onset of darkness, the trees within the park are illuminated, and their reflections upon the river create a scene that is nothing short of magical. Notably, entry to the park is provided free of charge.
