What to expect at Hachiōji Ginkgo Festival 2024
The Koshu Highway that runs through Hachioji is lined with around 770 ginkgo trees on both sides, for a stretch of around 4 Kilometres from the Oiwake area to Takao Station.
The trees change colours in time with the seasons and the Hachiōji Ginkgo Festival is held when the trees display the beautiful gold of autumn leaves.
2024 marks the 45th Hachioji Ginkgo Festival, which was created as an opportunity for those of all ages living along the Koshu Highway to come together and enjoy the nature and culture of Hachioji.
The festival enables visitors to participate in an array of activities/performances organised by the residents of the area who run the festival.
One of the main events at the festival is the checkpoint orienteering contest, where participants must collect stamps at 12 separate checkpoints before exchanging their completed pass for a prize.
