Eric Clapton, born Eric Patrick Clapton in Ripley, Surrey, England, in 1945, is a highly influential British rock and blues guitarist, singer, and songwriter.
Often nicknamed “Slowhand,” he rose to prominence in the 1960s with bands like the Yardbirds and Cream, showcasing his virtuosic blues-infused guitar playing.
He later embarked on a successful solo career, producing numerous hit songs and albums, including “Layla” and “Tears in Heaven.”
A multiple Grammy Award winner and the only three-time inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (as a member of the Yardbirds, Cream, and as a solo artist), Clapton is regarded as one of the greatest guitarists of all time, leaving an indelible mark on rock music.
