What to expect at Buri Kaido Festival 2024
Buri Kaido Festival celebrates the heritage of the former village of Asahi. The festival is held on the second Sunday of December each year and enters its 24th year in 2024.
Merged into the wider Takayama City in 2005, Asahi village was one of the main routes used to transport yellowtail to the then Shinshu/Shinano province, which is known in modern times as Nagano Prefecture.
This route was referred to as the “Yellowtail Highway” and now every year the Buri Kaido Festival is held to celebrate the areas history.
Buri Kaido Festival’s main events are a fish cutting show held by a master fishmonger and a famous giant seafood hotpot, which you can sample for 450 yen per bowl.
The fish cutting show will start at 10:30 – the following video report provides an example of what to expect both from the cutting show and the wider festival:
A seafood market and stalls will also be present to allow you to sample local delicacies and even take some home as gifts!
