Anime soundtrack festival to be held in Kyoto this September

The KYOTO SOUNDTRACK FESTIVAL 2025, a music festival focusing on anime soundtracks, will bring together composers gathered by composer Yuki Hayashi, who has worked on the music for TV anime series such as My Hero Academia and Haikyu!!.

Yuki Hayashi is a former male rhythmic gymnast, who became interested in the world of accompaniment music through the music selection process he undertook as an athlete. 

Although he had no musical experience, he started composing on his own while in college. 

After graduating, he learned the basics of track making from Hideo Kobayashi and began to create accompaniment music for competitive dance. 

He has built a unique musical style that incorporates music from various genres and places importance on a sense of unity between music and visual, based on his sensibility as a former dancer.

The event will be held across 2 days at the ROHM Theatre Kyoto on Saturday, September 20th and Sunday, September 21st, 2025.

On the first day, Saturday, September 20th, “KYOTO SOUNDTRACK FESTIVAL 2025” will feature a gathering of film composers led by Yuki Hayashi, who will perform live animation footage and soundtracks.

On the second day, Sunday, September 21st, there will be a special event featuring the anime “Blue Miblo”, called “Kyobansai x Anime “Blue Miblo” Miblo”, with many events planned, including appearances by a star-studded line-up of voice actors and a special live performance of the soundtrack by Yuki Hayashi, who was in charge of the music for the series.

What is KYOTO SOUNDTRACK FESTIVAL?

This music festival focuses on the important role that accompaniment plays in Japanese animation, which enjoys overwhelming popularity around the world.

Although background music is an important element that can completely change the scene in an anime, until the inception of the festival there had been no music festival specializing in background music, which is one of the central parts of anime.
