About Mount Haguro

Towering over Tsuruoka City in Yamagata Prefecture, Mount Haguro is a mix of natural beauty and spiritually significant sights. Mount Haguro is accessible year-round and as one of the Three Mountains of Dewa, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The iconic Zuishinmon Gate marks the entrance to the sacred path up Mount Haguro. As you climb the 2,446 stone steps, be captivated by the ancient cedar forest. The majestic Five-Storied Pagoda, a national treasure, stands amidst these serene woods, offering a breathtaking photo opportunity.

Sanjin Gosaiden, the mountain’s main shrine, welcomes climbers at the summit. This structure holds the deities from all three Dewa Sanzan shrines, making it the most important of the three.

The Dewa Sanzan historical museum is also located at the summit and offers an opportunity to learn more about the history and spiritual significance of the area.
