Myoko

Located in Niigata Prefecture along the Sea of Japan coast, Myoko is an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise in both winter and summer. Its centerpiece, the majestic Mt. Myoko, attracts skiers and snowboarders seeking the legendary “Japow” – Japan’s famous deep, fluffy powder snow. But the allure of Myoko extends beyond the slopes, offering rejuvenating hot springs, vibrant festivals, and a scenic setting primed for exploration.

Winter Wonderland

  • World-Class Skiing & Snowboarding: Myoko boasts several ski resorts catering to all abilities. Akakura Onsen and Ikenotaira Ski Resort offer a blend of family-friendly terrain and challenging expert slopes. Powderhounds will love Seki Onsen, renowned for abundant snowfall and backcountry terrain, and Suginohara boasts one of Japan’s longest ski runs.
  • Onsen Relaxation: After a day on the mountain, a soak in Myoko’s mineral-rich onsen (hot springs) is the ultimate apres-ski indulgence. Many ski resorts and charming villages like Tsubame Onsen feature both private and public onsen, offering a quintessential Japanese experience.

Beyond the Snow

  • Myoko Kogen Beer: Take a break from the outdoors to sample locally crafted beer at Myoko Kogen Beer. Try seasonal brews infused with regional ingredients and pair them with delicious pub fare in this cozy establishment.
  • Summer Festivals: If you visit in the summer, immerse yourself in local traditions. Experience the vibrant Lantern Festival in Akakura Onsen, or attend the Myoko Fire Festival, showcasing fiery torchbearers parading through town in a powerful display.
  • Outdoor Adventure: When the snow melts, Myoko becomes a playground for hikers. Ascend Mt. Myoko for breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, or take less strenuous nature walks through forests and fields. Watersports enthusiasts can enjoy activities on Lake Nojiri.

Myoko strikes the perfect balance between action and relaxation. Enjoy the exhilaration of winter sports, unwind in steamy onsen, connect with local culture, and explore the stunning nature that surrounds this vibrant region. Whether seeking powder-filled adventures or a serene retreat, Myoko delivers a memorable Japanese experience throughout the year.
