Meiji Jingu Shrine is a Shinto Shrine located in Shibuya, Tokyo.

The Shrine was established in 1920 to commemorate Emperor Meiji and Empress Shoken, who created the foundations of modernized Japan.

The forest that surrounds the Shrine is a man-made forest, with 100,000 trees donated from all over Japan.

The aim of the forest was for it to be a self-regenerating natural forest, which was planned by forestry experts looking ahead to the next 100 years.

Most of the shrine complex was burnt down during the air raids of World War II in 1945, however the forest survived and the Shrine was restored to its original grandeur in 1958.

Meiji Jingu Shrine is free to visit.

Meiji Jingu Museum admission is 1,000 yen for adults and 900 yen for children.

Nearest Station: Meiji Jingu is best accessed from Harajuku Station using the Yamanote Line (JY19).

You can access the Shrine from Sangūbashi Station using the Odakyu Odawara Line (OH3).

Meiji Jingu is also easily accessible from Kitasandō Station using the Fukutoshin Line (C14).
