About Jindai Botanical Gardens
Jindai Botanical Gardens was originally a nursery growing trees for Tokyo's roads, but after the war it was opened to the public as Jindai Green Space.
In 1961, the name was changed to Jindai Botanical Gardens, and it opened as the only botanical garden in Tokyo at the time.
The gardens are currently home to around 4,800 varieties of plants which are divided into 30 blocks according to type so that visitors can learn about plants while enjoying the scenery.
The garden preserves varieties of traditional Japanese horticultural plants and holds events and exhibitions year round.

When is the best time to visit Jindai Botanical Gardens?
Jindai Botanical Gardens are perfect for visiting all year round.
With a large variety of plants housed in the gardens, there will always be something beautiful in bloom.
Spring most notably brings the bloom of cherry blossoms, magnolia, azalea, roses and peonies.
Summer sees the season of hydrangea, Japanese iris, lotus and lily.
Autumn brings not only beautiful fall foliage but red spider lilies, pampas grass, dahlia and hibiscus.
Winter brings out the subtle blooms of plum, camellia, Chinese quince and Japanese wintersweet.
When is Jindai Botanical Gardens open?
Jindai Botanical Gardens are open daily from 09:30 until 17:00.
Last entry to the main gardens is 4pm.
The large greenhouse and aquatic plant gardens close at 4:30pm.
The gardens are closed as follows:
Every Monday (if Monday is a national holiday, substitute holiday, or Tokyo Citizens’ Day, the gardens will be closed the following day).
New Year’s holidays (December 29th – January 1st of the following year).
How much does Jindai Botanical Gardens cost?
Adult admission is 500 yen.
Adults aged 65 years and older, admission is 250 yen.
Junior high school students admission is 200 yen.
Entry is free for elementary school students and younger.
How do I get to Jindai Botanical Gardens?
Nearest Station: Jindai Botanical Gardens can be reached from Nishi-Chōfu Station using the Keiō Line (KO19).
The gardens can be accessed from Chōfu Station using the Keiō Line (KO18) or the Keiō Sagamihara Line (KO18).
Jindai Botanical Gardens is also accessible from Tobitakyū Station using the Keiō Line (KO20).
