My Neighbour Totoro sequel to air at Ghibli Park this winter

A little known sequel to the classic film My Neighbour Totoro by Studio Ghibli will air at Ghibli Park this winter.

The characters Mei and Baby Catbus in the "film Mei and the Baby Catbus". Baby Catbus is looking out the window, shocked.

“Mei and the Baby Catbus” was first released in 2002, however you can be forgiven for not knowing about this 14 minute long sequel to My Neighbour Totoro.

“Mei and the Baby Catbus” has only been available to view at Tokyo’s Studio Ghibli museum and Ghibli Park, and even then it hasn’t been on show all of the time.

Written by Hayao Miyazaki himself, and scored by famed Ghibli composer Joe Hisaishi, the story of “Mei and the Baby Catbus” sounds as cute as you would expect:

“One windy day, while Mei was eating caramel, a whirlwind appeared and chased her.

Mei catches a whirlwind, which turns out to be a baby Catbus.

Mei and baby Catbus become friends and go out into the forest that night.”

“Mei and the Baby Catbus” will return to Ghibli Park this December, with showings at its Cinema Orion inside the Grand Warehouse, starting on the 14th December 2024 until the end of January 2025.
