What to expect at Autumn Evening Illumination at Rikugien Gardens

Rikugien Garden is one of Tokyo’s most famous spots for viewing autumn leaves.

Enjoy the park’s autumn hues, which will be enhanced by the strategically placed illuminations bringing out the beauty of the gardens scenery.

The storehouse located in the garden will display a video projection featuring stunning colours and poetry, turning the building into a work of art.

Other illuminations located around the garden will include the Mizukae Projection where lights will create the atmosphere of a flowing river and illuminated lotus flowers will appear on the water’s surface.

Located around the garden’s path the waka poems that inspired Rikugien will be inscribed in acrylic panels that will be illuminated with lights.

There will be several photo spots set up around the garden to allow visitors to take commemorative photos.

Should you wish to remember your visit with a souvenir, the garden’s gift shop will be open to purchase original goods, traditional sweets and crafts.

Matcha & Japanese sweets sets will be available from the teahouse during your visit should you wish to take a break from your walk around the gardens and relax while taking in the scenery.

There will also be several food trucks at the event selling refreshments, snacks and light meals.

Autumn Evening Illumination at Rikugien Gardens will take place from the 22nd November 2025 until the 5th December 2025.

Opening hours for evening viewing will be 18:00 to 20:30 (last admission at 7:30pm).

*The park will close for regular daytime viewing at 17:00 and reopen at 18:00 for evening viewing, only those who have purchased special night viewing tickets will be allowed entry.

Online advance tickets are priced at 900 yen and are available from the official website, however advanced tickets are limited.

Same day tickets are priced at 1,100 yen and can be purchased at the ticket counter on the day of visit with cash payment only.
