A popular Tokyo based hotel has announced that they will be updating their Suica Penguin themed desserts for the winter season and fans of the mascot are set to snap up the new flavors when they release.

Hotel Metropolitan Ikebukuro will release the new flavors of sweet penguin themed treats at their 1F Cake & Bakery Shop and online from the 1st of December 2024, with customers able to choose from 4 different Suica Penguin themed winter desserts.

The first dessert in the line-up is the Suica Penguin Cake, priced at 780 yen (approx. $5.16 USD/£4.07 GBP) which features the mascot sat in an upright position. Winter 2024 sees the cake take on a new Chocolat Blanc YUZU flavor.

The penguins head has been created from a rich Belgian white chocolate mousse that envelops a sweet yuzu jelly that sits atop an almond flavored sponge.

Its base is made from lemon cookies topped with orange and almond biscuits that has a layer of yuzu cream at the base of the penguins neck.

Next up is the Suica Penguin Seasonal Cake priced at 650 yen (approx. $4.30 USD/£3.39 GBP). Two sizes will be available, with sales of the smaller variety limited to 50 per day and the larger size requiring reservations at least 3 days in advance.

For winter 2024 the theme of the Suica Penguin Seasonal Cake is ‘Chocolat Framboise’ – a raspberry brûlée is wrapped in chocolate mousse made from ‘Manjari’, a type of 64% cacao chocolate made by French company Valrhona.

The third dessert is the Suica Penguin Pudding, which is priced at 500 yen (approx. $3.31 USD/£2.61 GBP) and set to feature a chocolate flavor for the winter season.

The pudding combines bitter chocolate from France that has been mixed with rich Jersey milk and Okukuji eggs, a type of egg from Ibaraki commonly used in confectionary making in Japan that is said to have five times the amount of vitamin D and E as other eggs as well as a rich flavor.

Finally, a large Suica Penguin Chocolate Cake will be available that measures 16cm long by 10cm wide.

Priced at 4,200 yen (approx. $27.77 USD/£21.90 GBP), reservations for this cake can only be made online and need to be made at least 3 days before delivery.

The cake sees strawberry/cherry jelly and bitter chocolate mousse with cherry compote wrapped in vanilla mousse made with Belgian white chocolate before being layered on top of chocolate sponge.

The new flavors will only be available throughout the winter period, with sales ending on different dates for each item:

  • Suica Penguin Cake (Chocolat Blanc YUZU) – Available from 1st December 2024 to 21st May 2025.
