As the year draws to a close, Tokyo’s neighborhoods come alive with the spirit of Christmas.
With dazzling illuminations that light up the city’s streets, spending the holiday season in Tokyo also offers the opportunity to take in some of the best Christmas Markets in Japan.
Some of Tokyo’s most popular areas are transformed into festive wonderlands, making it one of the most photogenic times of year to visit some of the most popular areas and attractions in the city.

5 – Midtown Christmas Market
Taking place across Tokyo’s Akasaka and Roppongi districts, Tokyo Midtown Christmas Market sees the Galleria B1 of Tokyo Midtown transformed into a festive Christmas market with a variety of stalls available.
Held from the 14th of November to the 25th of December, the market is the perfect place to pick up gifts for the holiday season as stalls will be selling imported European decorations such as wreaths and tree ornaments, Baumkuchen, snow globes and beautifully wrapped confectionary.
You can also combine a visit to the market with going to view the Roppongi Hills Christmas Illuminations which are taking place nearby at the same time.
4 – Ebisu Garden Place Christmas Market
Take in one of the grandest Christmas themed events in Tokyo at Ebisu Garden Place Christmas Market, which can be visited any time from the 9th of November 2024 right through until the 23rd of February 2025.
The main feature of the event is set to be the Baccarat “Eternal Lights” chandelier, with 2024 marking the 25th anniversary of the chandelier being displayed at Ebisu Garden Place for the holiday season.
The Clock Square will also boast a 10 meter tall Christmas tree dressed with lights and red themed ornaments that will be lit daily from 16:00 until 23:00.
3 – Marunouchi Christmas Market
Tokyo’s Marunoichi area is most notably home to the iconic Tokyo Station, which serves as the backdrop for the Marunouchi Christmas Market, held from the 14th of November 2024 to the 16th of February 2025.
The area becomes a winter wonderland over the Christmas period with illuminations, ice skating all taking place at the same time as the Christmas market.
Around 500 meters of Marunouchi-Nakadori Avenue is turned into the Christmas market as part of “Marunouchi Street Park”, complete with stalls selling festive goods and food trucks with specially designed Christmas menus.
2 – Roppongi Hills Christmas Market
The Christmas market of Stuttgart in Germany is recreated at the Roppongi Hills Christmas Market, running from the 23rd of November until the 25th of December.
With a distinctively German theme, stalls will be selling original German Christmas goods, such as tree decorations and snow globes, as well as authenic German cuisine and drinks.
1 – Tokyo Skytree Dream Christmas/Christmas Market
The most popular Christmas market in Tokyo is undoubtedly the Tokyo Skytree Christmas Market.
Running from the 7th of November to the 25th of December 2024, the market hosts a number of different events in and around Tokyo Skytree and Tokyo Skytree Town.
Musical performances will be held to add to the festive atmosphere, as well as illuminations that use around 500,000 lights to create some of the best spots in Tokyo for photographs during the holiday season.
