Universal Studios Japan announces opening date for new Donkey Kong area
Universal Studios Japan have announced that a new area themed on the globally popular Donkey Kong will open on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
With the addition of the new Donkey Kong Country area, the area of Super Nintendo World at USJ will be expanded by 1.7 times, increasing the appeal of the entire area and providing a new experience full of innovation and creativity.
The new area was announced with a preview video, presented by the legendary creator of Donkey Kong and Mario, Shigeru Miyamoto.
The centerpiece of the new area is the “Golden Temple”, a real-life replica of the temple seen in Donkey Kong Country Returns.
The Golden Temple acts as the entrance to the Donkey Kong’s Mine Cart ride, which will see guests tasked with helping Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong on their adventure to protect the Golden Banana from the Tiki Tribe while racing through the jungle on a mine cart.
Whilst waiting in line in you’ll be introduced to the story, with murals and animatronics of Cranky Kong and Squawks the Parrot on hand to bring you up to speed.
Interactive elements are also on show in the new area, with a bongo drums game intended to be played in teams of three to win a prize, as well as a block hunt that invites guests who have one of Super Nintendo World’s Power-Up Bands to search for blocks that spell Donkey Kong’s name.
The Donkey Kong Country area will also be home to Jungle Beat Shakes, where you can grab banana desserts and drinks.
For those looking to pick up merchandise to remember their visit by, Funky’s Fly ‘n’ Buy will be stocked full of exclusive Donkey Kong themed goods, some of which will go on sale in other areas of USJ from Wednesday 13th November.
As a final memento of your visit, you can stop by Donkey Kong’s house to take a photo with DK himself.
Lucky holders of the USJ Grand Royal Annual Pass will be invited to visit the area prior to the official opening, but for those looking to access the area with general admission tickets, you’ll need to wait until the 11th of December to see everything that Donkey Kong Country at Universal Studios Japan has to offer.
